Tooled around and visited the Iowa Visitor Center to see just where we wanted to visit. Went into Diamond Joes Casino and you know Mike.... We don't pass up free or cheap. Buffet was offered for $5.00 if you get a Diamond Joe Card. We did and went back at 6pm for dinner. It was a $5.00 buffet....nothing to brag on!! During the day, we went to Minnesota and visited the SPAM Museum. SPAM is made by HORMEL. Didn't know they made so many different products!!! Will certainly have to check it out at the store.
This is the WALL OF SPAM!
Mike and Monty Python
We checked out some Minnesota Wineries,
Visited Laura Ingals Wilders Museum in an old Methodist church attended by her and Almanzo's family.
This pump organ really worked!!!!!
Stayed in Lanesboro, Minn. at HABBERSTAD HOUSE. Beautiful victorian home with exquisite furnishings and very hospitable innkeepers, Dave and Nancy. The very best. Wine on arrival, gorgeous, scrumptous full breakfasts.
We drove the scenic byway of Minnesota Southern Lakes. Austin, Houston,Root River Trail Towns. Whalan, Minn., pop. 63. The town is so small they have a Stand Still Parade. The floats are stationary and the people walk around them and visit!
Beautiful architecture in the small, quaint towns. Drove the back roads with rolling hills of prarie lands now new crops with a sprinkling of Amish, mostly off the main roads.
Mississippi River at top of photo.
We took a short hike in Garvin Heights State Park to the overlooks. We were immediately new meat for Minnesota Mosquitos!!!
