August 23, 2020

Arrived at Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas today after staying one night in Marshall Tx. We had our first campfire of the year and cooked foil pack dinners and roasted some corn.

Beautiful park, nice spaces. Our first and our second day was nice and then the rain from hurricane Laura hit us.

Mike was able to cook one meal before the rain hit us.  We had Chicken, veggies and corn on the cob.  Excellent.

We hiked a couple trails through the woods and canyons and along the river that runs through the park. There was not much water running in the river and the light rain felt great with the high humidity.

August 22, 2020

A few days ago we drove through the Strand area and did a tour of the tree sculptures. These are trees that were destroyed during hurricane Ike in 2008. Numerous area artists carved sculptures into many of the remaining tree trunks. Here are just a few of the sculptures we took pictures of.

Today is my 70th birthday, I had told Mike that I would like to spend my birthday with my family and friends.  But I think that he has a very romantic dinner planned for the 2 of us.

Wrong, Mike, my youngest daughter, Melissa Palmer and sister Theresa Ramirez worked on a surprise party for me.  All of my Houston family members made it out to celebrate with me that night, at Perry's Steakhouse.  That look on my face is one of shock.

Welcome when I walked into the banquet room at Perry's.

All of my family except one grandson, Jordan Reyna.

A day of fun aboard Red Dragon

We took a cruise aboard the Red Dragon
It was really a great day with lots of fun as the crew members worked a skit with all of the children aboard.  We were all laughing as we watched the crew with the kids. After our 3 hour cruise we headed back at which time the captain announced that the adult game was about to start.  We had to dance and the best dancer would get a prize.  So we all started dancing and when the music stopped, the first mate said and the winner is, as he looked up at me and smiled, this young lady.  I won a koozie.

Additional pictures of the cruise.

I think Mike makes a good pirate, and he definitely has the arghhhh, down pat. I think that I am on the Titanic and Mike says that he likes being a pirate, so that he has more guns to play with.

My Titanic stance.

Busy day at the USS Lexington and The Texas State Aquarium

What a beautiful day we had visiting the USS Lexington, there were no crowds, those on board knew about social distancing.  There was so much history to discover and try to remember.  Best thing is to have plenty of pictures to refer back to.  Not all pictures will have captions.  But those that I found interesting will have captions.

History of the USS Lexington from 1943-1991

I see JoAnn finally landed in the Brig.  What could she have done?  There are many questions to ask to find out how she managed to end up in the Brig of a carrier ship.  Not ready to ask too many questions.

All of those gun dreams finally caught up with Mike.

Mike playing with guns again.  Every time I find him he is playing with bigger guns.

Next we went to the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi Texas, thanks to my sister in law Kellie Cole.

Interested in sharks, fish or birds on the Gulf Coast you need to visit the Aquarium in Corpus.

It is time to  leave now before the shark swallows Mike and I.
