REINDEER FARM AND MUSK OX FARM ALASKA JUNE 16,2016

Yesterday we toured around Palmer. Nice quaint little town that was built by FDR as part of the New Deal. We started out at the visitor center and then went to the Reindeer Farm, the Musk Ox Farm, and then had a few brews at the Arkose microbrewery.
Roosevelt moved over 200 families in 1935 to colonize this part of Alaska..to start farming and dairy farming. The Matanuska valley and Knik river. They were from Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin and drew tracks of land arriving May 23, 1935.  Some original homes  and barns remain, although have been updated.
