We made it to the start of the Alaskan Highway, milepost 0 in BEAVER Creek. We toured the town and visited the museums to see how the highway was built in only 8 months. Since WW2 was in full swing, a lot of shortcuts were taken that could not happen today. Drove to Fort Nelson and checked into Triple G Hideaway Campground. Great place to stay. We went over to the visitor center to see what there is in town and then drove to the Heritage Museum (next to the campground) This was a fantastic museum and had a lot of old relics and machinery used to build the Alcan Highway. Drove to Watson Lake but stayed one night at Liard Springs. Our plans were to stay another night there and swim in the springs but it rained all night and most of the morning today so we just drove on to Watson Lake since we had no cell phone or wifi at Liard Springs RV Park. Saw LOTS of different wildlife on the way. We checked into the Signpost Services RV Park for 2 nights right across the street from the Sign Post Forest. Drove around Watson Lake in the misty rain. Visited the Sign Post Forest, 84,000 signs and counting. We did not have one to put up.........but not to worry we were able to buy one at a service station/garage nearby and the visitor center had paint for us. Alma did the artwork and I did the installation. Also watched an IMAX show at the Northern Lights Center - really awesome. Drove to Whitehorse after staying one night at the Yukon Motel and RV Park in Teslin. We stayed at the Hi Country RV Park for 4 nights while we saw the sights. Toured around Whitehorse, visited the SS Klondike, Yukon Brewery, Copperbelt Railway and Mining Museum, ate dinner at the Klondike Korner, and then saw the Frantic Follies Show. Also took a tour of Muktuk Adventures where we learned all about sled dog training. They have over 100 dogs at the ranch and train them for mushing in the Iditarod. About half of them are retired now but all are still very active. We first had a lunch in the lodge and then got to meet the dogs. On our way home we stopped by Miles Canyon. Decided to stop in Haines Junction for the night at Kluane RV Kampground on our way to Tok, Ak. 30 amp power, no water and no sewer for $15 which is no problem for us. The view here is fantastic. Stayed at Beaver Creek RV Park in Beaver Creek for one night, then drove to Tok and checked into the Tundra RV Park. Really nice wooded sites with full hookups and 50 amp service.
