oops!! WHITEHORSE, contd. JUNE 4, 2016

Today we took a tour of Muktuk Adventures where we learned all about sled dog training. They have over 100 dogs at the ranch and train them for mushing in the Iditarod. About half of them are retired now but all are still very active. We first had a lunch in the lodge and then got to meet the dogs. On our way home we stopped by Miles Canyon.

Chained up yes....mistreated, no!!!  Well cared for....taken off chains 6-7  at a time to go run at the river, play.  All very loveable.  All have a dog house with straw.  Fed twice a day and watered well.   Not enough staff to let run free.  Well enough off Hiway to take a few at a time to run, Not all Huskies.  Mixed breeds.  Most retired.

Blueberry sausage and candied, smoked salmon for appetizer with blueberry chutney.
Bison Burgers and fixins.
Lots of puppy love!!!!  Jeff was our guide.

If you pet them and turn your back, she jumps on your back for more love!!!

Jeff showed us how they harness the dogs.  This girl is well retired and she's 14.
The sled for the musher to stand behind.

 WWII vehicles at campground.
